Title The Godfather
Year 1972
Director Francis Ford Coppola
Genre Drama, Crime
Plot – The 1940s. As is customary, during the refreshments for celebrating the wedding of his daughter Conny with Carlo, the "godfather" Don Vito Corleone promises assistance and protection to his family and friends. He sends his stepson Tom Hagen in California to convince the producer Jack Woltz to hire the singer Johnny in his next film, but Woltz doesn’t agree, so Tom then forces him to accept with a "warning", killing his favorite race horse. Sollozzo, on behalf of the powerful "family" Tartaglia, asks Corleone financings and support for the drug trafficking. The rejection raises a bloody fight between the two clans: Don Vito himself is seriously injured and the youngest son Michael saves him from a second attack. Michael then, overstepping his impetuous brother Sonny and the temporizer Tom, organizes a meeting with Sollozzo and the corrupted police captain McCluskey and kills them both. Michael hides in Sicily to avoid revenge. Here the young man falls in love with Apollonia. When his wife dies in an attack and Sonny is killed by some rivals, he goes back to the US and participates in an useless attempt of general reconciliation between the different "families". Don Vito nominates Michael "godfather" who, after the death of his father, takes control with shocking resoluteness: among the victims of his cruel repression there are the famous Johnny and his brother-in-law.
