Plot – Three prisoners try to escape from Alcatraz, but one of them dies and the other two are taken back. Henri Young is segregated for three years while Rufus McCann is simply rehabilitated. Henri thinks he's been betrayed and kills Rufus in front of everyone. Sentenced to death, he's given a public defender, James Stamphill, who discovers indeed US prisons system is unfair and Alcatraz director Glenn is very cruel. James tries to involve the other inmates to report the director, but Henri is resigned and wants only to be condemned.
