Plot – Young killer Tony Camonte becomes the bodyguard of a mafia boss. Helped by his friend Rinaldo, he seizes power. Tony is morbidly obsessed with his sister and makes the mistake of killing Rinaldo when he learns that he has married the girl. The police gets on his trail for the murder. The film is a classic. The figure of the young gangster, who is violent, cynical, amoral, and ambitious, is inspired by young Al Capone. However, it is characterized by a tragic dimension, which makes the character a negative hero. The ambiguity of this character forced the producers to release the film with a moralistic prologue. The film is one of Hawks' masterpieces and one of the best movies of the '30s. Masterful screenplay by Ben Hecht, perfect rhythm, the piano-opening sequence is famous.
