Plot – In 1863 during the Civil War, the Yankees employed black soldiers, mostly former slaves that had fled from the South. The movie tells the story of the training of a black battalion, led by the white colonel Shaw. The Boston bourgeois man, with the help of his comrade Cabot Forbe and the tireless white sergeant Mulcahy, wins the trust of his men, especially that of Trip, and guides them to their first battle, which ends in a useless massacre. These men, despised by everyone, die with indomitable bravery.
