"Jerry Maguire" by Cameron Crowe: a review
Tom Cruise had one of his best roles ever as Jerry Maguire, a sports agent, who has a dramatic change of heart relating to how the business is carried out. He is fired from his company because of his new zeal but takes a loyal secretary, Dorothy Boyd, (Renee Zelwegger) with him when he starts his new company.
His one client, football player, Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding, Jr.) makes him earn his commission but is also inspired by Jerry. Gooding earned the Oscar for best supporting actor and made famous the line, “Show me the money” when his character argues with Jerry.
A big part of the movie is the evolving relationship between Jerry and Dorothy and her son and Rod and his wife, Marcy (Regina King). This is an American-made comedy/drama so all ends well as we expect it will. But, of course, it is packed with poignant, funny, and suspenseful moments. Makes you feel like you're running on a treadmill for hours and loving it.
