This much beloved 1994 film starring Tom Hanks in the title role tells the story of a man with an IQ of 75 who makes an extraordinary journey through life and politics. He does heroic things and meets historical figures without really realizing their significance. He does, however, fall in love with his long-time friend Jenny (Robin Wright), whom he first met in kindergarten.

Finally as an adult, Forrest reveals his love for Jenny, and out of a sense of compassion, she sleeps with him. Later, it is revealed to Forrest that he has a son by Jenny who is dying of a blood disease. They marry, but Jenny soon dies, knowing their son will be well cared for.

The entire story is told through flashbacks to various persons at a bus stop. Their reactions vary from disbelief to awe. One of these times at the bus stop, Forrest wisely comments, "Life is like a box of chocolates: you never know what you are going to get." And so it is!
