Plot – Anna Karenina is a 2012 historical romantic drama film based on Leo Tolstoy's 1877 novel of the same name. Set in the late-19th-century Russian high society, St. Petersburg, it tells the story of Anna Karenina, the wife of a Russian imperial minister Alexei Karenin. She travels from Saint Petersburg to Moscow to save the marriage of her brother Prince Oblonsky, who had had a love affair with his housemaid. But soon she will enter into a life-changing affair herself which will lead her to a tragic fate. She meets the cavalry officer Count Vronsky at the train station and they feel attracted by each other. Alexei offers her a difficult choice: Go into exile with Vronsky but never see her son again, or remain with her family and abide by the rules of discretion.

“I was eighteen when I got married, but it was not love.”

“Romantic love will be the last delusion of the old order.”
“An impure love is not love, to me. To admire another man's wife is a pleasant thing, but sensual desire indulged for its own sake is greed, a kind of gluttony, and a misuse of something sacred which is given to us so that we may choose the one person with whom to fulfill our humanness. Otherwise we might as well be cattle.”

“Vronsky-I love you!
Anna Karenina-Why?
Vronsky-You can't ask why about love!”
