Plot – Calogero Aniello, a nine-year-old kid and son of a bus driver, becomes friend with Sonny, the gangster of the neighborhood. The father, who doesn’t want him to become a thug, doesn’t approve the friendship. Time goes by and the boy gets to know the human side of Sonny. Based on a play by Chazz Palminteri, who in the movie plays Sonny’s role, the film is directed for the first time by De Niro. A skillful mix of comedy, drama and coming-to-age story marks the debut of the Italian-American actor as director.
