Plot – A strange mysterious client, Louis Cyphre, hires private detective Harry Angel to find Johnny Favorite, a war veteran and former successful singer, who was released using falsified documents from a psychiatric clinic in '43 and who has since disappeared. Favorite was under contract to Louis Cyphre, who does not leave anything unfinished. Angel gets busy, discovers various interesting things, but falls into a vortex of fear and blood. The discharge from the clinic where Favorite was believed to have been hospitalized had been authorized by a doctor addicted to morphine in exchange for 25,000 US dollars.
