Plot – Young Axel, after his parents death in a car accident, has found peace as a clerk for the Department of Hunting and Fishing in New York. One day he gets called back to his hometown in Arizona by his Uncle Leo, an exuberant man with a Cadillac dealership and a beautiful fiance, Millie. Leo wants Axel to be his best man at the wedding and to become his business partner. Axel, instead, would like to return to New York until he meets the extravagant widow Elaine, who has shot her husband and lives with her stepdaughter Grace. Elaine lives in a precarious mental state and the strong presence of her stepmother also makes Grace a very anxious person. Axel decides to remains in town and, soon after, he and Elaine become lovers. Elaine dreams of building a flying machine and Axel helps her. One night Leo, in the throes of a nervous breakdown, takes to many pills. Called by Millie, Axel rushes but the uncle dies in the ambulance, dreaming of reaching the moon on a Cadillac parade. On the occasion of Elaine's birthday, Grace manages to win over Axel, who is in love with her. However, in the evening, while Axel talks with Elaine, Grace goes out for a walk in the rain and shoots herself. Axel does not know what to do. The movie ends with a dream in which two Eskimos in Alaska that look like Leo and Axel are struggling with a strange fish that flies away while they are having a conversation.

I'll tell you how I'd die. I'd take off all my clothes and I'd get into a bathtub filled with ice-cold vodka. I'd have a TV in the room with me and I'd be watching "North by Northwest". And just when the scene comes with the airplane I'd pull the TV in the bathtub and I'd shock myself! I hate that film.
