Plot – Jack Terry is a sound technician for B-films and is looking for unique sound effects. While he is on the riverbank in a park, his sensitive microphone picks up the sound of a car swerving and falling into the water. He manages to save the girl trapped in the car but not the driver, who then he discovers is the governor and a presidential candidate. Re-listening to the recording, Jack discovers that together with the sound of the blow-out, apparent cause of the accident, there is also the clearly identifiable sound of a gunshot. This is obviously a political crime over which, however, immediately falls a heavy veil of secrecy. The police reject his thesis and Jack, who used to be a policeman, decides to investigate on his own. He then discovers how Sally, the girl he saved, was placed in the governor's car to compromise him. He also discovers a conspiracy that, under the pretext of setting moral standards in public life, counts among its members a sex maniac who strangles women. Jack uses Sally to expose him, but he arrives too late: the maniac kills the girl and in turn he is killed by Jack. Sally's scream will serve for the soundtrack of the film Jack was working on.
All actors – John Travolta, Nancy Allen, John Lithgow, Dennis Franz, Peter Boyden, Curt May, John Aquino, John McMartin, Deborah Everton, J. Patrick McNamara, Missy Cleveland, Roger Wilson
