Plot – Al Roberts hitchhikes a ride from a stranger to reach California and see his girlfriend. During the trip, the man suddenly dies and Al, fearing he will be accused by the police, hides the body and continues his journey with the dead man's identity and money. Later a woman, Vera, discovers the truth and blackmails him, but Al - after accepting the extortion - tries to change things by getting involved in a number of paradoxical events that will turn the journey and his life into a Kafkaesque nightmare.
