Plot – Odessa is a small town in West Texas. Racially divided and economically in crisis, the town's only reason to get together is the Friday night football game. The local Permian High School team has a big winning tradition in Texas high school football, thanks to coach Gary Gaines and rising superstar Boobie Miles. When an injury puts an end to Boobie's career early in the season, both supporters and the team seem to lose hope. Determined to make a big season comeback, Coach Gaines must find a way to help the team rise from its ashes.
