Plot – This is the story of Sam Dawson, a mentally retarded father raising his daughter Lucy together with an extraordinary group of friends. The trouble begins when Lucy turns seven and develops intellectual abilities superior to those of her father. Their special bond is threatened by a social worker who wants to give Lucy to a more suitable foster family. Facing a lost cause, Sam decides to start a fight against the system and against what he considers an incomprehensible injustice. His unlikely ally is Rita Harrison, a skilled, super efficient and perfectionist lawyer who initially accepts the case as a challenge to her colleagues. At first glance, Sam and Rita do not seem to have anything in common, but as a matter of fact there are subtle similarities between the two. Sam's compulsive nature mirrors Rita's obsessive, although more tolerable nature. Her obsessive need for perfection and success has deteriorated her relationship with her son and has slowly destroyed her sensitivity.
