Plot – Col. William Ludlow has resigned from the army because he is disgusted by the government's treatment of the Indians. He is a widower and lives in Montana with his three sons Alfred, Tristan and Samuel. Tristan, who is the wildest one, is attracted by the Indians' culture. The arrival of the refined Susannah unleashes rivalry between Alfred and Tristan. Then the First World War breaks out and things get complicated.
