Plot – During the Second World War, on Iwo Hima island some American soldiers fight against the Japanese army entrusted to General Tadamichi Kuribayashi, a highly educated man who has studied in Canada and knows perfectly how to fight. He's a military strategy expert and wants to kill at least ten Americans. Saigo, a former baker, wants to survive to come back home and meet his newborn child; Baron Nishi, a riding Olympic champion, is famous around the world for his skills; Shimuzu, an idealistic and confident police rookie collides with war's harsh and cruel reality; Lt. Ito believes deeply in his mission and prefers killing himself rather than being captured. Japaneses and Americans fight for 40 days: as the Japaneses are defeated, they are aware they won't return home.
