Plot – In a small US town, a newspaper changes its owner and some editors get fired. To take revenge for the dismissal, a young reporter publishes a fake letter signed by a hypothetical John Doe which announces he will throw himself from the Town Hall tower. The letter gains much popularity, then the reporter confesses it's a fake, but he suggests her director to take advantage of its success, even if they have to find someone who represents the elusive John Doe. The task is entrusted to John Willaby, who talks to the audience through the radio speaking in favor of human solidarity and against social injustices. The owner of the newspaper decides then to exploit more Willaby, so the man thinks to realize John Doe's initial intent. On the top of Town Hall tower, John meets the journalist who persuades him to keep on fighting for good causes.
