Plot – Michael Clayton is a "fixer" who works at one of the largest corporate law firms in New York. Taking orders from the studio's co-founder Marty Bach, Clayton, a former prosecutor born into a family of policemen, takes care of Kenner, Bach & Ledeen's dirtiest business: he finds remedies to the troubles of the firm's wealthy clients, dealing with cases of wrongful death, defamation in the press, wives dedicated to petty theft and dishonest politicians. Although tired of his job, Clayton is tied to Kenner, Bach & Ledeen because of his many debts due to his divorce, to his passion for gambling and to a business adventure gone bad. At the same time, Karen Crowder - head of the legal department of U/North, a company that operates in the field of chemicals for agriculture - has put her career on the line with the outcome of a class action suit in which her company is defended by Clayton's studio. The outcome of the trial seems obvious - with the victory of U/North - but suddenly the best civil lawyer of Kenner, Bach & Ledeen, the brilliant Arthur Edens, has a breakdown which leads him to sabotage the entire case and thus threatening to overturn the outcome. At that point, it is up to Michael Clayton to resolve an unprecedented disaster and in doing so he will be forced to come to terms with the man he has become.
