Plot – Sheriff Alan Pangborn is baffled: episodes of madness are occurring in the quiet town of Castle Rock. Suddenly, old-time friends argue and are mean to each other. Pangborn does not understand why. It seems there is a link between these disturbing events and the opening of an antique shop in the town. Although the sheriff considers the antique dealer, Leland Gaunt, a strange and elusive type, the inhabitants of Castle Rock are enthusiastic about him. Gaunt seems to see the hidden desires of each client, managing to find what the client was looking for or secretly dreamed of. His store is transformed into a center of gravity which all community members are attracted to. Even Pangborn's girlfriend Polly and her friend Nettie are attracted by Gaunt's unusual merchandise. However, the sheriff does not know that his fellow citizens are victims of the malign influence of the antique dealer and that everything in the shop is for sale, even their souls.
