(1997)Plot – In Australia, in the second half of the 1800s, the heiress Lucinda is obsessed with glass because of its diaphanous and fragile beauty. Oscar, a minister of God and adept at gambling, follows the Lord, who gave order and meaning to his life. Oscar and Lucinda meet and bet on a bold endeavor: to build a glass church, a synthesis of what the two love most in the world. During the journey to bring the church to the village of Ballinger, Oscar feels ill, then tries to stop the killing of Aborigines, challenging the customers of a bar to a poker game. The leader of the soldiers traveling with him prevents it, Oscar reacts and kills him. The glass church is delivered via river to Reverend Hasset in Ballinger. Meanwhile Oscar, seduced by Miriam, ends up marrying her. He then goes to the glass church and asks God's forgiveness for having betrayed Lucinda.
