Plot – The war is about to end. Susan Traherne works with the French Resistance and she meets Lazar, a paratrooper on mission, falling in love with him. However Lazar leaves soon and Susan starts one relationship after another. In London Susan finds a modest job and befriends Alice. Now she desires a baby and Mick seems the right father, but she drives him away even if he is fond of her. Susan is on the brink of madness and is hospitalized, so Alice calls one of her former lovers, Raymond, who rushes to her and proposes. Together they go to Jordan for work, but she is constantly in crisis and forces her husband to come back to London, where Raymond has no career. Here he leaves Susan, who returns to her wanderings.
