Plot – Maurice and Cynthia live on the outskirts of London. Even if they are brother and sister, the two have not seen each other in a long time. Cynthia lives with her daughter Roxanne and has no sympathy for Monica, Maurice's wife. Eventually Maurice, who is a photographer, breaks the stalemate, goes visit his sister and invites her to his house to celebrate Roxanne's twenty-first birthday. Meanwhile, Cynthia is contacted by Hortense, a black girl who works as optician and who claims to be the daughter Cynthia gave up for adoption immediately after birth. The two women meet and, after an initial period of disorientation, they start to go out together and create the conditions to build a relationship. Cynthia, happy for this new-found affection, asks her brother if she can bring a person to the birthday party, passing Hortense off as a work colleague. On the day of the party, they gather at the home of Maurice and Monica. Behind the apparent cheerfulness, everybody hides nervousness, which inevitably comes out. Cynthia reveals that Hortense is her daughter and soon after that other revelations follow among the relatives present around the table. Finally truth wins out over the many lies and Cynthia can return home with her two daughters, who get to know each other and be together.
