Plot – A central Europe city is threatened by a strangler and Kleinman, a Jew clerk, is involved in the hunt, finding himself walking alone and scared in the night. He meets Irmy, the swords eater of the local circus, who's fleeing because she has seen her boyfriend with another woman. During the night, many citizens show off their personal shame and virtues before magician Armstroff dispels the strangler and Kleinman himself.
