Plot – Doug Simpson, owner of a California radio station, is a 37-year-old widower with two daughters, 15-year-old Katie and Bonnie, who is a few years younger. His steady girlfriend is Janet, who sincerely cares for the two teenagers. Taking advantage of Doug's absence for a business trip, Janet transforms Katie from an awkward “child” into a beautiful girl, since she has noticed that the girl has reached the age of first love troubles (even if her father has not). The father, on his return, is flabbergasted by the change. From that moment on he sees Katie surrounded by a host of suitors and learns that she has dismissed the trusted Richard, who has been her best friend since childhood. Flattered and excited at being courted by so many boys, Katie starts dating, worrying her father, who does not want to see her as a young woman and who therefore starts following the advice of a famous psychologist, Dr. Fishbinder, author of a book on father's problems with young daughters. At first Doug is Fishbinder's enthusiastic disciple, but then ends up seriously arguing with him when he discovers that Fishbinder has no daughters and therefore does not have any real experience in the field. Meanwhile, to cope with the onslaught of young males, Doug has Bonnie spy on her sister and begins acting with diplomacy, befriending the most dangerous elements, such as Joey, a punk musician, who Katie has a crush on and who forces him to crazy car rides in the night. Next to come along is the perfect Timothy, who is about to start university and belongs to a prominent family. However, Doug does not trust him and starts following him, discovering that he is a womanizer. When Katie and Timothy go to a hotel for the Prom, Doug follows them, taking advantage of a dinner, during which he is introduced to Janet's parents, who in the meanwhile he has decided to marry. Worrying about the risks that Katie could be running, Doug is on the alert and when Timothy takes her to a nearby motel, he steps in to save her only to find out that she can take care of herself. In the end, after an affectionate hug with dad, Katie leaves on a trip to Europe, escorted by Richard, but Doug has already begun to worry about Bonnie, who is starting to date a boy.
