Plot – Karl Childers has spent his adolescence and part of his adult life in a mental institution due to the killing of his mother and her lover. When he's released, he has to deal with his fellow citizens' hostility, but the friendship with a child makes him feel serene and confident again. When the boy introduces him to his mother, her violent and alcoholic lover treats Karl with insults and provocations.
