Plot – World War II has ended and Stingo leaves the army. He moves from Virginia to Brooklyn to find luck and rents a strange pink house. His quiet but fervent life is troubled by his stormy neighbors: Sophie Zanistowski, a Polish immigrant who is survived to Auschwitz, and Nathan Landau, an intellectual, brilliant and refined Jew quite obsessed with the Holocaust. They develop a strong friendship and Stingo gradually falls in love with Sophie. The girl confides him her father was a supporter of the Nazis and she has been deported to Auschwitz with her two sons.
