Plot – “Spotlight” tells the story of the team of investigative journalists of the Boston Globe nicknamed Spotlight, who in 2002 shocked the city with its revelations about the systematic cover-up by the Catholic Church of sexual child abuse committed by over 70 local priests, an investigation rewarded with the Pulitzer Prize. When the new Boston Globe's director Marty Baron arrives from Miami to direct the newspaper in the summer of 2001, he immediately instructs the Spotlight team to investigate a local story about a priest accused of sexually abusing dozens of young parishioners over a period of thirty years. Aware of the risks involved in putting themselves on the line against an institution like the Catholic Church in Boston, the managing editor of the Spotlight team, Walter "Robby" Robinson, reporters Sacha Pfeiffer and Michael Rezendes and computer research specialist Matt Carroll begin to investigate the case. Gradually that journalists of Robinson's team speak with the lawyer of the victims, Mitchell Garabedian, interview adults molested as children and try to gain access to court documents that have been kept secret. It then becomes increasingly clear that the cover-up of abuse cases is systematic and that the phenomenon is much more serious and widespread than anyone could imagine.
