Plot – In 1928 a big metal ring engraved with hieroglyphics is found in Egypt. Years later Daniel Jackson, a young egyptologist, is contacted by Catherine, the daughter of the archaeologist who discovered the ring, which actually is a "stargate", an interplanetary door. Now she's in charge of a US government project and wants Jackson to travel through it with a handful of soldiers led by Colonel Jonathan O'Neil. They arrive to a planet similar to the ancient Egypt where a community lives enslaved. At first they are mistaken for deities, then they are hosted. The egyptologist discovers an alien called Ra is taking possession of young men's bodies to escape extinction. He himself has constructed the "stargate" to ensure a slaves' supply. The opening of the door by the Earth side is now endangering Ra's plans, who's thinking to send back to Earth the bomb O'Neil has brought. The alien captures the Colonel and Daniel, but the slaves rebel. Ra tries to get away with a spaceship but Daniel puts the bomb on it and Ra explodes shortly after. O'Neil and the soldiers come back to Earth, while Daniel decides to remain on the planet with his new friends.
