Plot – Richard, a young American backpacker like many others today, has just arrived in Bangkok with little money and many doubts. He registers at a cheap hotel, where he meets a French couple, Francoise and her boyfriend Etienne. In the room next to his, Richard also meets another man, Daffy, who calls himself "a traveler marked by sun and drugs". Here the young man sees a map drawn on a piece of paper, indicating an unspoiled island that Daffy says he wants to reach. Richard is impressed and, after thinking about it, decides he wants to join Daffy. He goes to tell him about his decision, but he finds him lying on the ground with his wrists cut. Richard is convinced now more than ever that he has to continue, so he involves the two Frenchmen and they all set off on a journey into the unknown.

Or get better, in which case everyone can forget about it. Get better or die. It's the hanging around in between that really pisses people off.”
“When you develop an infatuation for someone, you always find a reason to believe that this is exactly the person for you. It doesn't need to be a good reason. Taking photographs of the night sky for example. Now, in the long run, that's just the kind of dumb, irritating habit that would cause you to split up. But in the haze of infatuation, it’s...” (continue)(continue reading)

- Etienne: So?
- Richard: I think in miles, not kilometers.
