Plot – Eddie Felson now owns a liquor store, but in his youth he was an excellent billiard player. One night in a pool hall Eddie notices the young and irreverent Vincent Lauria. He is touring the States with his girlfriend, he plays and wins, but he is too red-blooded and although he is incredibly skilled, he lacks in slyness and readiness. Eddie and Vincent make a deal: they will tour together and Eddie will organize everything, earning 60% of the guy’s income. Vincent has to learn many things, including losing when it is necessary to catch the attention of rich competitors. The trio is successful: Eddie’s experience compensate Vincent’s naïveté and vehemence. During a championship, Vincent plays according to his coach’s teachings and pursues ambitious goals all by himself, encouraged by the materialist Carmen while Eddie gets ignored. However, Eddie is ready to go back to his billiard cue and is patiently training like a beginner with a renovated enthusiasm.
