Plot – Rubin "Hurricane" Carter is a black boxer who sees his dream of winning the middleweight title fading when he's arrested for the murder of three people in a New Jersey bar. Carter is condemned to three life sentences but he's victim of an unjust accusation. In jail, frustrated and hopeless, Carter decides to write his story. After his autobiography is published, Carter continues his captivity. Despite the situation, he finally finds a sort of inner peace detaching himself from the world outside and the success he achieves with his book. Years later, Lesra Martin, a young Canadian misfit, reads his book and begins a correspondence with Carter. Sure of his innocence, the guy persuades his social workers - Terry Swinton, Lisa Peters and Sam Chaiton - to engage a civil battle to release the boxer.
