Plot – In October of 1957 the Americans had many reasons to be worried: Rock 'n' roll, television, the bomb. On October 4, the Soviets launched the first satellite, Sputnik, into orbit. It was the official beginning of the space race. The Cold War became colder and colder. People were suspicious of their neighbours, even doubting friends. In the small town of Rockwell, Maine, Annie Hughes's main concern is to be able to feed herself and her nine-year-old son Horgarth. Annie is a single mother who works as a waitress at the local diner and her son Hogarth keeps her busy. He is a stubborn and imaginative child who is always on alert, concerned about mutant aliens or subversive invaders' latest attempts to seize power. When a local fisherman enters the diner and tells the amazing story of a huge metal man falling overboard, the only one to pay any attention to him is Hogarth, who goes in search of this huge robot. What he finds instead is an 18-meter-tall giant with an insatiable appetite for metal and the curiosity of a child for this world.
