Despite the imminent war, the Prince and his family move to their country residence in Donnafugata, where the beloved nephew Tancredi falls in love with Angelica, daughter of the mayor and member of the new middle class. Tacredi takes part to Garibaldi's campaign and distinguishes himself during the battle of Palermo.
