(1937)Plot – The movie shows the life of the prolific author Emile Zola (1840 - 1902). At the beginning of his career, Zola lives in a garret with painter Paul Cézanne. A fundamental chapter of his life is the passionate stance in favor of the accused of the 'Dreyfus case', in which a Jew officer has been wrongly convicted of espionage. The movie is quite melodramatic indeed but Paul Muni's performance is terrific. Zola will die due to the fumes of a stove.
