Plot – In Cincinnati, young Kevin Dillon suffers from a rare syndrome and his mother Gwen move into the house next to where Maxwell Kane lives with his elderly grandparents. Max is 13 and he looks like a giant, he is slow in school, has little courage and has difficulties adapting. Max and Kevin are outsiders who meet and build a new life. Together they set off in search of greatness and goodness, guided by the noble spirit of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. In a bar they defend a woman battered by a man, at night they retrieve another woman's stolen bag. At the school cafeteria, Kevin feels sick.
