Plot – The film chronicles the last twelve hours of Christ's life. The events start from the prayer in the garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus goes after the Last Supper to resist Satan's temptations. Betrayed by Judas Iscariot, he's arrested and brought in front of some Pharisees leaders, who condemn him to death. Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Palestine who's asked to deliberate, hears the charges and proposes the angry population whether to save Christ's life or Barabbas' one, a notorious criminal. Jesus is then scourged by Roman soldiers and brought in front of Pontius Pilate: the people choose to save Barabbas' life and Pontius Pilate washes his hands to indicate he doesn't want to be involved anymore in the choice. Jesus is forced to pass through Jerusalem and to climb to Golgotha carrying a cross on his shoulders. At the top of the mountain, his hands and feet are pierced with nails and the cross is lifted in front of his mother Mary and the holy women's mangled eyes, including Mary Magdalene. Jesus faces his final temptation: being abandoned by the Father. Then he dies while lightnings tear the sky and the Jerusalem temple's curtains tear off too.
