Plot – Former warlord Ying Ho, once a brutal tyrant, has left Tibet where he has been trained by the wise Tulku. Now disguised as the fatuous and rich playboy Lamont Cranston, he arrives in New York in 1930. When a crime takes place, he wears the disturbing mask of Shadow Man to ridicule and punish the evil-doers. Unexpectedly, Shiwan Khan, Genghis Khan's last descendant, arrives in town in a sarcophagus with the specific intent of conquering the world. First Shiwan tries to bring Lamont over to his side, counting on his not yet completely tamed dark past. Then he fights openly with Lamont, who meanwhile is attracted and frightened by the beautiful Margo Lane, daughter of scientist Reinhardt. Meanwhile, the scientist has been working on a secret experiment on behalf of Farley Claymore, who courts Margo in vain. The girl, who has telepathic powers, recognises the dual personality of Lamont, who tries to mislead her. Meanwhile, having understood the destructive capabilities of the two devices designed by Reinhardt Lane and Farley Claymore, who have been made his slaves, Shiwan has these devices assembled in a bomb that can destroy New York if he does not get dominion over the United States. Claymore organizes a death trap in a water tank, but Lamont manages to escape thanks to the help of Margo who he calls telepathically. Lamont then attacks his rival in the hotel Monolyte, his hiding place in the center of New York, where in a carousel of unexpected turns of events and paranormal performances, he overpowers Claymore. The city and humans are safe.
