Plot – It is a cold winter day in a small seaside town in northern Scotland. Frances, a recently widowed photographer, does not want to deal with the difficult situation, she refuses to leave the house and lets her sixteen-year-old son Alex take care of both of them. Elspeth, Frances' mother, is determined to make her react, therefore, traipsing along icy roads and defying old age, she goes to her daughter's home to win back her affection and trust. Meanwhile, two elderly friends begin to read the obituaries in the newspapers and, having decided which funeral to go to, they walk to the bus stop to catch the bus that will take them to their destination. Elspeth convinces her daughter to go out and, as they begin to walk, Frances announces her intention to leave for Australia to start a new life. Meanwhile, two teenagers skip school and go to the beach to play, but the cold makes them sit and talk about parents, family and sex. Left alone at home, Alex has Nita come in, a girl who he has had a crush on for a long time. When they feel their mutual attraction growing, they understand that it is also time for them to make a decision. Continuing to walk, Elspeth and Frances meet the two teenagers and they start talking. Frances takes some photos, seeming to regain confidence, and when they turn away, she communicates to her mother that she no longer wants to leave.
