Plot – The '50s were years of optimism in America. The war was over, the economy was growing, the men returned home and all the rules were changing. Caroline Wolff, a divorced woman with a teenage son, is the typical icon of that period. With few money but many hopes, Caroline and Toby travel the country believing things are going to change for the better. Unfortunately, Caroline's attempts to start over seem destined to fail. She's often fired and the men she meets aren't the right ones, so she continues to travel with his son until they arrive in the northwest of the country. Here Caroline meets Dwight Hansen.
