Plot – Mariner is an adventurer half man half fish and lives by bartering sailing with his ingenious and powerful trimaran the immense expanse of water in which the Earth has been reduced. Not only he must beware of villain colleagues, but also of the inhabitants of an artificial atoll who decide to capture him as they discover he's a mutant. Then the Smokers arrive: they are ferocious pirates commanded by Deacon who drive motor boats and live on the infamous Exxon Valdez oil tanker. They try to capture Enola, a girl with a mysterious map tattooed on her back that would lead to the fabulous Dryland, the long-awaited mainland. Freed by Helen, a young woman who takes care of Enola, Mariner has to overcome his misogyny to repay the woman and the child's help.
